Quick start written tutorials for GM's getting started in Fantasy Grounds
Hi Everyone,
I posted these on another thread but thought it was worth putting them here for ease of finding.
Getting started as a GM on Fantasy Grounds can be intimidating. There are a LOT of "moving parts" to master because FG does so much more than other VTTs. Videos and tutorials can help, but one thing that was lacking was a step-by-step written explanation of how to set up your first adventure ready to run, generate a group of characters ready to play in it, then run the game.
I've attempted to provide one.
I hope this is of some use; I would have found it very helpful 18 months ago when I was getting started!
EDIT: these have now been added to the wiki:
Player Tutorial One: Play Now!
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...rt+for+Players
Player Tutorial Two: Comprehensive Quick-Start for Players (including 5E Character Generation)
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...al+For+Players
And the original DM series:
Part One: Preparing an Adventure

Part Two: Making Pre-Gen Characters
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...ges/2018541581
Part Three: Dry-Running A Game

I admire the effort! I wish more people read user manuals nowadays and stop whining how non-intuitive the product is. 30 min reading will save you hours of frustration.
The past is a rudder to guide us, not an anchor to hold us back.

These are now on the FG wiki, along with two written QuickStart tutorials for players.
Player Tutorial One: Play Now!
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...rt+for+Players
Player Tutorial Two: Comprehensive Quick-Start for Players (including 5E Character Generation)
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...al+For+Players
And the original DM series:
Part One: Preparing an Adventure
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...ges/2017230849
Part Two: Making Pre-Gen Characters
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...ges/2018541581
Part Three: Dry-Running A Game
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassia...ges/2020999207
Together I think these constitute all you need to get going with FGU, especially for 5E.
Thanks to Derek for the hard work of putting them into the wiki!
Question - is there anything else that you'd like to see covered? Would a quick-start for some other systems be beneficial? I'm not qualified to do all of them but could have a go for SWADE, Deadlands and Vaesen for example.
Or are there other GM topics that would be useful to cover in this format? Lights and LOS are well covered in the basic guides IMO, but stuff like making a 5E NPC from scratch doesn't seem to have a great deal of text-based material on it.
I'm not promising anything but would be interested to know what topics people would like to see or feel aren't well covered by the existing resources.
Cheers, Hywel
