Unable to update on both laptops

I am at RageCon and on hotel wifi, though using Wireguard to VPN to my home networks (tried off VPN too)

Launching FGU gets the main page with the green banner saying 'Update Available' yet when I choose to click the updated launches and stops at 'Getting Products.'

Any thoughts?

Something is blocking the HTTP requests from the updater to the web site. On Windows, control over network access is usually handled by Windows Defender.
You'll want to make sure that "FGUpdaterEngine" is specifically allowed to access the Internet over the network you are currently on.

Or, you could just skip updating until you return.

Thank you, I will check that out.

I made the mistake of logging out on one of the laptops and cant log back in - it just hangs on 'logging in.'

Verified username and pw are current via logging out/in on this website.

Try using your phone as a hotspot rather than the hotel wifi to see if that is what is blocking you from at least logging in.

My Corsair a1600 is using my phone to update as I type on the Asus laptop that wont update even after adding the firewall exception. (tried hotel and phone)

I didnt logout/in and am going to wait on that as the Asus has far better battery life and is where I am keeping my characters, so I want to make sure it stays available.

Thanks again to everyone. Issue resolved.

I tried turning the firewall off - which did not help, so not a firewall issue.

Logging out and back in did resolve. My guess is an older password was in FGU on the laptop. Feedback i would give is that this should generate an error message about bad login attempt rather than just hanging.

It would be nice if FGU also had a low power mode for Convention or in person gaming where an electrical socket is not available.

There is not a low power mode, but you can reduce GPU load, and therefore power consumption, with some commands: Reducing GPU Usage - Fantasy Grounds Customer Portal - Fantasy Grounds

May or may not be related.

I had an apartment and had to live in a hotel room for a couple of months due to repairs.

My old desktop was still setup to use the old online connection (I had never changed the setup when the Server option came out).

Well, at this hotel, whatever changes were needed to make FG connect the old school way also blocked my computer to having full access to the hotel's internet.

Fortunately, the hotel help desk guy (over the phone and far away) was actually helpful and we got everything reset and working again.

I cannot for the life o me tell you what he did, but I know I am not messing those settings again, lol. Please never get rid of the Server to connect games! lol
