Assigning Allies to PC-s

Hi ive recently started a savage worlds campaign.. I wasnt able to figure out how to assign some npcs for player control... what i tried: setting up the combat tracker, pulling the "personalities" on the group icon of the PC that should control them , then assigning tokens to them and finally pulling the token from the tracker to the map. the tokens get labeled fine, but the players cant move them.. How can i give em control of these?
