Help with seeing spells in Combat view on Actions tab
I'm sure there's probably a easy answer for this issue but I have found one so far. I have a PC who can't see available spells when he switches to the "Combat" view. We're playing 5E and he just went up to 5th level. When he selects 3rd level spells he can see the spells in the Standard and Preparation views, but they disappear when he switches over to the Combat view. I've attached pics of his character showing the Standard view and Combat view. This is my first FG game and the first time the characters have reach a high enough level to use 3rd level spells.

One can prepare a list of spells. In the spells meta dats header, put 1 in prepared, in the prepared spot. When switching to prep mode click on the bubbles of the spells to be displayed, prepared, or bonus spells.
Normally, not all spells are available unless you are preparing and resting to swap out spells to ready, etc.. but I understand the dilemna.Last edited by Laerun; April 5th, 2024 at 04:20.

So combat mode shows what spells and actions are available. So they have to have some uses of the spell in the preparation mode (as Laerun mentioned). Similar things can happen if no slots of the available level are available. i.e. if you have no uses left to you, the option is removed from your list.

What is meant by the spell meta data is clicking on the small magnifying glass at the end of any of the Spells (Level x) header and adding a number into the 'prepared' box. Any number will do.
If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

FYI: There are a couple of extensions that can help/alter how prepared spells look/function:
DM's Guild:
Pinned Spells: This small extension allows "pinning" some spells on the action tab such that even without available spell slots they are still visible in combat view. To do this simply add "|" to the spell name.

Forge:
Prepared Enhancement
by Zarestia for 5E Compatible
This extension adds a cycler before the prepared number with which you can let the usages of action scale with an attribute or proficiency.

This extension is not needed. You can pin the spell twice to your actions tab and just change the category on one of them to break it off from the rest of the spells. You can then add number uses, if needed. You really ever only need to do this when a racial ability, class feature or feat give you a limited use of a levelled spell (no need to do this for cantrips, that I can think of).

Ohh, the Pinned Spells extension will allow me to do at least one thing Kit'N'Kaboodle did. Really hope KNK gets updated

Thanks for all the replies and useful information. I knew it was a simple answer, and something I'd read before but just could not recall. The issue is now resolved!
