To set a time mouse over the hours and minutes boxes and hold down CTRL whilst moving the middle mouse wheel. To set the year just type in a number into the year box. Once you have done that click on any date and then click on the set selected date as current date button next to the era.

You'll need to find and open the Calendars module in Modules, then open the Calendar / Time window in the top right (near CT) and select the calendar you want to use. This is needed for pretty much any new campaign to be able to access calendar logs and whatnot - and is what the extension uses too.
