I use a method of rolling 4d6 (drop the lowest), asign the six scores to the stat of your choice. If you end up with no score over 13 or a total bonus of less than +0, you can reroll the whole lot.

Almost every game I play has a point based system. I like that so that everyone starts out on an equal footing and someone doesnt get screwed over by a bad dice roll.
Except TFOS, in that game stats don't matter as muchDM: For reference sake, when a bad guys dies, I'll turn their token over. So an upside down 'A' or 'B' means it's a corpse.
PC 1: So if we kill a 'M' is it reincarnated as a 'W'?
PC 2: That damn 'O' just won't die!

We usually go for 10s on every score, add 12 points as you desire, max 16 for any score, then add racial modifiers.

To make things even and to let people create their charactes 'off-line' from FG we used the 28 point buy method.
In the past we've also done 4d6 reroll 1's put numbers where you want them.
