    FG Spell Templates Usage

    I just picked up the FG Spell Templates but I'm struggling to find a way that I can use it in-game. It seems limited to the GM and limited to being only useable when editing a map.

    Since spells are a dynamic part of gameplay it seems unwieldy to stop gameplay to start editing the map to apply the effects.

    Also, there doesn't seem to be any way for a player to apply or adjust the spell templates. Either the GM asks the player to specify here they want the spell, and players can be very picky about exactly where they want their spells to land, or the players use the built-in pointers. If the players are using the built-in pointers then it seems that it would just be easier having the NPCs use them too.

    I like the templates, particularly the wall effects. I would be great if they we usable outside map editing and were available as options to the players.

    I guess they could be used for traps and such, less dynamic game world effects.

    Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to use these templates?

    Thanks for the video. That's about the conclusion I came to, only GMs can use them and they need to be editing the map. I suppose I could submit a feature request to allow players to drop and manipulate tokens on the map?

    Whilst there are still some issues to be ironed out with their development and implementation I use:

    As I said, the implementation is not perfect yet, but the developer is very very active in improving functionality.

    I wish I could tell you how amazing the DM Tools that Ludd_G linked are. You need to have another extension as well, so you have to invest about $20 if the tools aren't on sale, but they are GREAT. PCs can add templates to their spells and move em around the map and even auto target NPCs under the template. It takes some messing with to get going, but it is really straight forward once you figure it out. The creator has a discord channel you can ask questions on. I really hope FG implements something like this.

    I think all the tools are actually on sale at the moment, which is fortuitous if you decide to go this way.
