Brush tool just smears texture

Hi

Ok trying out map maping tool. quite sure this used to work fine. but now if i take a brush and use line tool. it just smears texture out. see pic left side what texture of coast is supposed to look like. and on right side what it looks like when i draw with line tool..

Anyone any idea if i maybe am doing something wrong? tried severall brushes got same result.
