    FGU Mac installation

A player of mine has a Mac and just downloaded the latest version of FGU. He reported the following issue to me trying to open the install package. He gets the following message. Is there anything he can do to get by the problem?

“FGUWebInstall.pkg” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for
    malicious software.

This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more
    information.

That file wasn't updated for a couple weeks; but I just pushed a new version about 10 minutes ago. (after your post)

Can you have your user try to download again?

    Thanks,

@Moon Wizard, did you verify the checksum of the last package before uploading a new one? That could help determine if it was modified.

Your player can also click on the lock icon in the top right of the Installer window when the “FGUWebInstall.pkg” is opened. That will reveal code signature, which should include Smiteworks and link back through Apple’s Developer ID Certification Authority and the Apple Root CA. If that sigature is valid, the pkg has not been modified and should work to install the software.

If the pkg cannot be verified with that signature, it may have been modified. Since it was a new download, it stands to reason that the version on the Smiteworks site could have been modified.

Package installers and apps on the Mac need to be signed and notarized nowadays. The player can check Security & Privacy System Preferences to see what the current security setting are.

Generally, the “allow apps downloaded from” selection should be “App Store and identified developers,” which allows for apps from the Mac App Store plus Developer ID-signed software, like Fantasy Grounds.

If that is set to the more restrictive setting for the App Store only, your player would need to a) change it or b) take additional steps to run apps like Fantasy Grounds. The articles below should help.
