    Good adventures to buy

This question will have been asked before, but apparently I'm using the wrong search keywords. Most adventures go on sale once in a while. I got "Lost mines of Phandelver" that way since it was recommended in a thread. Haven't played it yet, but I know it's a good thing which is staring to me from my digital attic. Don't want any bad stuff in there . I'm looking for a top five of adventures to get. FG supported, 5E. Any tips?

This is a difficult question to answer since it depends on what kind of adventures you and your players like. All of the big WotC adventures have merit but if you like Dungeon Crawls then Dungeon of the Mad Mage; if you like sandboxy type adventures then Storm King's Thunder or Tomb of annihilation; if you like mysteries or city adventures then Waterdeep Dragon Heist; if you like a horror theme then Curse of Strahd; for Underdark shenanigans then Out of the Abyss or Princes of the Apocalypse and Dragon Queen for a more straightforward railroaded type adventure. And there's the new one but I haven't delved into that in detail yet in order to categorize it - except if you like snow then that's the one for you.

Forcing me to make a list? Then in no particular order Storm King's Thunder, Dragon Heist, Tomb of Annihilation, Curse of Strahd and Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

There are also some fairly beefy third party adventures but again I haven't really had time to delve into those.
If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

Gotta agree, depends on what you want.

    My thoughts on the ones I know;

Princes of the Apocalypse - Good sandbox with a handful of dungeon delves and lots of near open ended exploration. Just make sure you make the evolving world feel alive for your players with things changing.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage - A pretty good version of the Undermountain except it lacks the massive level maps and the reasons given for delving in are pretty weak (but then that's typical for a mega dungeon).

Waterdeep Dragon Heist - A great setting with lots of 'things' that you can use. The adventure itself is... not to my liking (weak, inconsistencies, railroad). BUT if you use the Alexandrian Remix it's a lot of fun.

Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, Divine Contention (aka Beyond IceSpire) - These are the most 'ready to run' modules I know of. They follow after the Dragon of IceSpire Peak from the Essential Kit, but can be run after Dragon Heist (like I did) or even as fairly disconnected dungeons and challenges.

Interesting, some of your remarks mention things I hadn’t thought about yet. I usually run in my own homebrew world, so I’m having to recalibrate some basic definitions to be able to compare. Thanks both.

I highly recommend Curse of Strahd. For the most part it's well written, and there is a ton of info on the subreddit in how to improve it even further. It's widely considered one of the best ones, and if you and/or your players are at all interested in the gothic horror kind of setting you'll love it. If your players like games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne, it'll be a smash hit.

Curse of Strahd if you like the setting is a great one. If you have read "I, Strahd: Memoirs of a Vampire: The Memoirs of a Vampire" then this one is for you.

I like Waterdeep Dragon Heist as it is. I have not ran it Alexandrian Remix style but it does look interesting. I would follow it with Dungeon of the Mad Mage which is a old style dungeon crawl.

If you do not mind doing some converting I would add in Temple of Elemental Evil. You would want the universal module extension and to convert it which will take time.

I would pass on Princes of the apocalypse. I am not a big fan of how it is structured.

Sticking to WotC products I’d say Curse of Strahd, because it’s succeeded in creating the right atmosphere and Dungeon of the Mad Mage because it keeps things simple.
Every other WotC adventure has that pretentious and grandiloquent style of including all things cool plus A kitchen sink. Figuratively, having to go to the four corners of Faerun flying on a cloud-castle, with a mushroom-man companion and a undead pet to attend the dragons council before the end of the world comes, is just too much for me and destroys my suspension of disbelief.
The same Bombastic style as the hobbit film trilogy that are oh so bad...
