    Creating Mods from content

What are the rules on creating mods from already existing content, like from DMsGuild or D&DWiki?
The things I have do not already have a mod for, so I started making them at least for my benefit for my games, but if I wanted to share them to others, I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

In general, you can convert anything for personal use.

When you start considering distributing conversions, you need to make sure that you are adhering to copyright law. At a minimum you need permission from the copyright holder for the content (typically the author).

Assuming you receive all the appropriate permissions, you also need to be aware of where you publish stuff. Items published on DMsGuild have various licensing involved and restrictions on content. Details can be found in their creator FAQ. Other sites may have similar types of licensing agreements that must be adhered to.

I've never worked with D&D Wiki, but there would be no difference in the requirement to adhere to copyright law for them. The only difference might be site specific licensing agreements.

I'll also point out that on homebrew sites like D&D Wiki, you can often find stuff that uses artwork and material without proper licensing. Its a common thought that if they are not charging for it, its ok to use. That is not the case however, and you should always be aware of what you are converting.

Sites like DMsGuild have authorized packs of art that may be use, but only for items published on DMsGuild. They are not authorized to be included in publications elsewhere.
