I am considering buying a membership: however, I am trying to figure out what I need to get to run Descent into Avernus. I was running that, in a weekly, group before social distancing occurred. I want to know if I can just buy the module or if I have to buy the Player Handbook, DMG and MM. I have the hard copies, but do I need these online to run the aventure?

No. You actually don't need more than a license.

That said, you probably want ot buy the adventure so you have all the maps and NPC/encounters setup and ready to go.
