Targeting Question / Glitch

So I'm playing and not DMing for the first time in 4 years! My friend is DMing as I type this and he is learning the various in's and outs. I'm doing my best to walk him through things without having a DM view.

Anyway I've walked him through how to get PC's and creatures to the CT and map. When we as players target a creature on the map by control clicking we see them targeted in the CT but when we roll the attacks they don't actually go against the creature. The weird thing is I can attack by dragging my attack over the creature on the map and dropping it.

I for the life of me can't figure out what he is doing wrong so that the CTRL click method isn't working.

Any ideas?

Check the targeting reticle on the modifier box...
