ruins of azlant adventure path reboot
    (minor spoiler)

introduction of house-rule magic item: octoform

ruins of azlant adventure setting takes place in an extreme remote area where obtaining / buying / upgrading weapons and armors can be very prohibitive – e.g. 12 weeks in-game time delay.

creating this house-rule magic item hopes to alleviate this, allowing pcs opportunities to upgrade weapons and armors more immediately. party just discovered said magic item; this entry provides rp'ing of initial discovery and not comprehensive details in regards to how it works. the party would need to discover its properties through time -- i.e. gm would reveal details as party interacts, experiments, and / or finds lore about said magic item as the adventure progresses.

    #####

peliel inspects the fine quality of the azlanti sword* the party had uncovered under the porch floorboard at levin farm. the craftsmanship is exquisite, to say the least, even to the untrained eye.

it would certainly fetch a hefty amount of gold, not just because of the fact that it's a magical item, but rather its origin would considerably augment the monetary value if presented to a discerning collector or avid historian.

the design at the hilt stands out subtly but noticeably, something the young alchemist finds curious: an opalescent octopuslike form with all eight pseudopods gripping the handle neatly. it seems like a separate adornment added on to the design, but the fitting is so precise and purposeful that it can't be denied as being part of the original design!

gently and meticulously through surgical habits, peliel places the tip of his punching dagger, hovering just above the point where there is barely a perceptible gap between the octoform and the hilt. it is actually an impulsive thought, but the aquatic elf cannot resist the feeling that such prying would – and is compelled to – remove it from the hilt.

as the tip of the punching dagger touches it mark, a flash of incredulous and amazing series of mini-events occur:

the octoform changes from what seems as an inorganic shell-like opalescent weapon garnish into a fleshy malleable squirmy being. all eight pseudopods reacting to the contact, releasing their grips from the hilt of the azlanti sword. peliel watches with wonder as the "creature" traverses with lightning speed across the surface of the punching dagger, reaching and fastening itself onto the hilt of the new "host" weapon.

it takes but a brief moment to settle – all eight tiny pseudopods gripping and forming a perfect fit, then coalescing into its former shell-like appearance. spreading from the octoform, a sheen radiates and eventually covers the whole weapon; it looks like the original sharp, untarnished new punching dagger that peliel remembers when the weaponsmith first handed to him.

wilder's mouth stays agape as he happens to be nearby, witnessing the wonder. the azlanti sword shows a slight lackluster, but its intrinsic physical properties remain seemingly unchanged. detecting magic no longer registers full-strength as the sword's magical aura slowly dissipates to nothing.

the opposite registers on peliel's punching dagger
    **: glowing with magical vigor.

wilder imagines its size as he holds out his hand near the octoform...
