Glad to see your correction to this statement... You should try to take a bit of your own advice before choosing the use of words you started with and understanding their meaning.
Etymology is not only a definition in your choice of reference (Merriam Webster), it is also a field of study and a profession. Which makes the discussion of languages, including fictional ones inclusive. Thus is the reason for the posts to also be moved to a new thread.

True and I didn't imply you had. As to "touching on meaning", Etymology doesn't touch on it, it defines it. It is the branches of the trees of linguistics.

That is ONE POSSIBLE history of a person possessing a form of Etymology in a Myriad of "galen's" throughout history, so hardly absolute. The only "absolute here" is the thread is about Tolkien and his use of Etymology in creating fantasy languages(as requested by Bidmaron / myself & supported by dulux-oz).Since you are "totally aware of this" so, please, feel free to contribute to the thread in that manner.

While I am not "certain" of the validity of exacting font styles, here are links to Tolkien type fonts that might prove useful, and free

Has a very nice Hobbit freehand style and the Tengwar Elvish is pretty good too.

    From Webster’s:
    Definition of philology
1 : the study of literature and of disciplines relevant to literature or to language as used in literature
    2a : LINGUISTICS
especially : historical and comparative linguistics
b : the study of human speech especially as the vehicle of literature and as a field of study that sheds light on cultural history
