Thread: Map Import

    Map Import

Am I missing something? Used to be able to drag and drop maps into FG Classic, but FGU doesnt allow it, how do we add our home made maps, so I can add LOS and use in session?

You can not drag files directly into the FGU screen; since the underlying Unity 3D platform does not allow that.

Also, per the Known Differences thread stickied in the forum, images are not treated as "assets" that can be used in any image record. So, an image record is not created automatically for a new file that is added. Basically, since an image record can contain multiple image asset files, we can no longer assume that a file equals a record as we did before.

To create a new image record from an asset, you can drag the Image asset from the Assets window (available via the sidebar near bottom) to the Images list; and it will automatically create a new image record with that asset as the first layer.

To add new assets, click the Folder button in the Images list to open the campaign images folder where you can place new assets for your campaign.

    Regards,

Sorry, but that as stated does not work, I drag and drop and nothing gets added to images.

Hi Syker, welcome to the Community.

Make sure you are dragging from the image from the assets window into the Images and Maps window as shown.

Out of curiosity, does it cause any problems if you populate the "images" folder directly in windows explorer?

You mean the images in the top level of FG Data? If so no; that's pretty much how you would populate that folder.

If you copy your image files into */Fantasy Grounds/images, it shows in the "Data" sack under assets.
If you copy your image files into */Fantasy Grounds/campaigns/NameOfCampaign/images, it shows in the "Campaign" sack under assets.

I recently purchased some .pdf files and I am unable to import them from the campaign/NameofCampaign/Images folder, it just errors out. Are only certain formats supported? When I try to convert from PDF to JPEG they break.

    Nevermind, I solved it myself.

pdf files are not supported file types. You need to extract the images from them and save them as png or jpg file types. You can cut and paste (and clean up the text) into stories etc as desired.
