One of The Greatest Authors who has ever taken a breath...(OK...that's enough Fanboy!!!)...but seriously...check out the Sandman graphic novels and you will see his best stuff...Dream, his sister Death, and the Endless will get inside your head and dwell therein for awhile...They are not comic books...not for the Kiddies...and you gotta read the whole story...He elevated the Comic Book form to Literature, in my barbaric, unwashed opinion...he also wrote American Gods...Neverwhere...Stardust...Coraline...and his newest Anansi Boys...which I haven't read...He's also done many comic books and he created the movie Mirrormask...All of his works are great, dark chalices from which you might drink deeply for inspiration...(Gees...Fanboy is back...)Google him and you will get more info than you probably need...

His primary field of writing is the Urban Fantasy genre - tho he doesn't go into the spellslinging/standard fantasy fare. American Gods is an absolutely brilliant book, and Neverwhere is right up there as well (if you get a chance, find a copy of the BBC miniseries on which the novel is based, also called Neverwhere).
