Port Forwarding Issues. First time doing this..
Hello everyone! I recently purchased FG's legendary license, and was looking to DM a session with some friends. However, I discovered the need to port-forward, and while something like Hamachi could work I'd prefer to figure out how to nip this issue in the bud at the source.. my lack of knowledge of port-forwarding. Especially because I plan on hosting sessions that might eventually exceed Hamachi's 4 person limit.
I tried to follow the instructions on PortForward.com, but unfortunately, they don't seem to list my modem on there... so in desperation, I tried using the instructions for a different model(but same brand) and it obviously didn't work. All in all, I've never really port forwarded before, so this is all quite new and confusing to me.
If it helps, I have a Hitron CGNVM. My specific model name is CGNVM-3582.
If anyone can offer some help, I'd be very appreciative.

hi littlelostdevil welcome to FG.
Firstly make sure that your network is set to private and not public and then check that your antivirus software is not blocking FG - before you even think about port forwarding. Assuming that you have created a rule in your AV and that your network is set to private the next thing is to check that you have an IPv4 network. Can you do a tracert 8.8.8.8 and post a screenshot of the first few hops (To do a tracert type run into the search box at the bottom left of your task bar and then select command prompt from the result; then just type in tracert 8.8.8.8 and press return)If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

I just had to reset my router and review the port forwarding instructions. That website seemed a little outdated and wasn’t very helpful to me.
There are 2 basic steps as I understand it - setting up port forwarding in your router settings and setting a static IP in your computer’s network settings. The router settings were the most confusing for me since the setup is different for every router.
Posting a screenshot of the part you are stuck on is probably best.

Welcome to the forums littlelostdevil
- As leozelig suggests, please post a screenshot of the port forwarding settings screen/s from your router.
- Also, please do the tracert suggested by Zacchaeus.
As an aside - you can get around the Hamachi 4 user limit by the GM running 2 Hamachi networks (up to 4 players on each). But, as you mention, it is best to try to get connectivity working without if at all possible.Private Messages: My inbox is forever filling up with PMs. Please don't send me PMs unless they are actually private/personal messages. Oh, wow. Thank you all very much. I was not expecting so many replies so quickly. Honestly, I've never really messed with settings involving internet or modem much before, so I really don't know what I'm doing at all. Here are the screenshots you all have requested. The first is an example of my port forwarding section of my modem, with Name1 being the settings I got off of Portforward.com (Again, for a modem that was same brand as mine, but not the correct one)

The second is my tracert. I'm not really sure what it's displaying either.

To answer your question leozelig, I'm really not sure where to begin. I can get into my modem's login screen just fine, but I don't really know what to do from there. I've never toyed with anything involving my modem, so I don't know much about static IPs, or port forwarding in general.

Oh, and my ethernet connection is set to private, and I confirmed that FG is given permissions through my firewall.

The port forwarding looks correct.
Unfortunately, the tracert shows that you're behind two other devices with private IP addresses. If these aren't your own devices, then they will be your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and they will be essentially sharing the public Internet IP address among various customers - this is becoming a common practice.
Your first step is to get in touch with your ISP and ask that you be allowed port forwarding for TCP port 1802 for peer-to-peer gaming. They should understand what this means. It might involved paying more for a static IP address, or they may be able to make a change so it works for you.
If the ISP can't solve it, or it is too expensive to change, or there's a different setup where you can't access the private devices, then you will need to use some form of VPN solution. Hopefully talking with your ISP will get you to where you need to go, but if you do need to try some of the alternatives (see the thread Trenloe linked above), never fear. Many of us have had success with all of the alternatives listed in that thread and we can definitely help you out if it comes to that.
