getting a can't initialize Directx error 16 message. help! i need to DM in 1 hour!

uninstall and reinstall DirectX.

I had that issue, in my case, it was caused by a display driver I had updated. I ended up going to a restore point to fix the issue (uninstalling/reinstalling Direct X did not solve it).
