Cannot import any character from Hero Lab to Pathfinder campaign

I have 3 characters that I am trying to import into a new Pathfinder campaign. I made them in Hero Lab and exported them as both xml and hlfg files. When I open the campaign and try to import them in the character window, I get a message inchat "Imported character from <path>" and the path is correct. No character shows up in the character window with either file type. I watched a tutorial video and he did exactly what I am trying to do and had a character appear. I have the Ultimate license.

Use the character converter, found in <FG app data>\utilities to import your .hlfg files.
