Another question on map software
Hey all,
I used DJ for quite awhile I liked how it worked.
The New version just will not work for me, tried all the workarounds it just is busted.
Pc on that one, once I tried the fixes now it will just give errors.
The Mac version will not work as it is a Power PC app.
So I have to give it up.
I am looking for something that worked like it did, fairly simple but I can to the tile like stuff then add in other features.
I do not mind a small cost, just need it to work and not have a few ton extra options that I have no use for.
Doing mostly battle map style stuff for FG.
So need to me able to set of scenes without having to become a graphics expert.
Have huge data amount of pgn files from DJ, but need something to use them with.
Used CC2 few years back, but found it heavy for just setting a scene.
Tried a few of the online ones but most are limited on using my data or want me to pay to get my map every time, which seems wrong to me.
Willing to buy a service but not be extorted.
So if you used DJ and/or have a good replacement please let me know.

Hey Larac - there doesnt seem to be too many other options to those two. Ive gone to buy DJ so many times but the website has been down more often than (mostly 2011-2012) and lttle seems to have changed on the site in the last 2 years so I never did. I just dont really have the need for CC at its price. I havent really found other competitors doing what they do.
These are the products I do use - It depends on how fussy/demanding you want to be with maps but I can usually output a completely satisfactory (for my needs anyway) map from one of my two favourite sources in 5-15mins:
https://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online
https://www.mapeditor.org/ combined with https://www.rpgartkits.com/#section-purchase or https://www.wyldfurr.com/index.php/p...category/maps/
Sometimes Ill do a little touch up or add a grid etc in https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

There's Fractal Mapper: https://www.nbos.com/products/fracta...r/screen-shots
I picked it up when it was on special a while back, but haven't really used it so can't comment on it's features and use. I'm a CC fan myself...Private Messages: My inbox is forever filling up with PMs. Please don't send me PMs unless they are actually private/personal messages. General FG questions should be asked in the forums - don't be afraid, the FG community don't bite and you're giving everyone the chance to respond and learn!

Thanks all, trying to get stuff into pyro now.
Got a few things in, so far.
Really sad as DJ worked really well for this stuff, but they will not even re do the install files to work on Win 7 let alone beyond.
I like CC for overland big stuff seems difficult for a quick woods, with cave thing.
Trenloe how do find CC for Battle maps, maybe I am just missing something?
But thanks again, instead of making maps trying to learn new software, so behind another night, players going to get worried.
Does not help my drawing skills are surpassed by many 4 year olds.

Larac - quick tips for Pyro -
Everything is on separate layer. if you need that wall to be UNDER the tree thats already there...
Polyline walls usually give better results (because of the "always on" shadow) than just Lines.
Use a different type of wall to do Doors - there are no doors - or add doors afterwards in GiMP.
Learn how to use the Arc Lines. Try making a 1 square Arc Lines and drag out. Make a 3 square Arc Line and drag out. You can see that they both have their use.

Thanks Damned
Question How do you rotate on Tiled?
Looked at docs and could not find it.
Pyro looks close to DJ just a bit clunky, going to have to get my fx into it and see what I can make it do.
Thanks again, so much to get done and still spinning my wheels so to speak.
Hate learning new software

I dont think you can. I make a tile sheet and then grab everything i need off there as it is...
