    Mac users beware

I'm sure if you're a Mac user you know Catalina has dropped but , you need to know that FG decided not to to upgrade classic FG to work on a 64 bit operating system. After upgrading to Catalina, I figured out Fantasy Grounds was no longer working and I reached out to the developers. They apologized but said that my choices would be to create a new partition with an older version of the operating system, run a dual boot with a windows machine or basically wait for and buy their new application FG Unity.

Unfortunately, their Kickstarter for their new platform has ended, so you can only guess what that means.

So... if you want to continue using the application DO NOT UPGRADE or it will cause mini-crashes on your computer and will no longer work.

Would somebody with Catalina please do the community a favor and build Fantasy Grounds in Wine using this 64-bit Wine packager that claims to be able to run 32 bit apps? I would do it if I wasn't participating in weekly FG games and reluctant to break my setup.

the developer of this is looking for testers that use 32 bit apps in his 64 bit Wine packager.

Welcome to the forums dubugz. Sorry you were not aware of this. It's been talked about on the community here for some months and I believe is mentioned in the hardware requirements as well.

All that said, there are several paths you should be able to use to get FG running, but their is no automated installer. Good luck and let us know if you have questions.

I received an email from Crossover, which uses wine that they were hoping to have an alpha out in 30 days that would allow you to run 32bit apps in 64bit Mac OS.

You can use parallels now with Catalina but that is an additional expense.

If you want to go the windows route you could if you have the room create boot camp partition. Then you can download windows 10 from Microsoft’s site For free and run FG that way. I tried it on my Mac and it worked, but FG ran better in wine on the Mac OS, so I stuck to that, but I am running High Sierra.

Unfortunately Wine doesn't run on Catalina, at least not the one that came with WineBottler 1.4

Installing wine directly also doesn't work, it complains about "Bad CPU type" which is clearly, bonkers

You could also run Windows on your Mac inside VirtualBox. It's free, as opposed to Parallels. https://www.virtualbox.org/

Ha! I was about to post that I'm running it within vagrant/virtualbox with a Microsoft Remote Desktop client running on top of it... but holy crap the performance though... *shudder*

Yeah, RDP is not known for having great graphical performance. A VM in virtualbox should perform well otherwise, though.
