How to grant Control of NPCs in Fantasy Grounds: (No Extensions required!)
Add NPCs to Combat Tracker:
- Begin by adding your NPC to the combat tracker, preparing them for the action.
Set Faction to Friendly:
- Change the NPC's faction to friendly (indicated by a green helmet) to align them with the player characters.
Share NPC to Control:
- Drag the NPC's link from the Combat Tracker to each appliciable player character's portrait on the desktop, granting individual control.
Place NPC Token on Map:
Enhance accessibility by placing the NPC token on the map from the Combat Tracker. This allows players to reopen the NPC sheet by double-clicking the token if needed.
Shortcut for NPC Stats:
- Players can also create a shortcut for the shared NPC to quickly access the stat block.
Enable Token Party Vision and Movement:
- In options, activate Token Party Vision and Movement for a unified vision and movement control.
Create GM Hotkey Shortcuts:
- Set up hotkey shortcuts to easily toggle ON/OFF control states for the GM, ensuring smoother gameplay transitions.

I prefer full unfettered access to NPCs for players so that I as DM don't have to manage any of them if I don't want to. And I literally hate - I mean hate - that evil Enable Token Party Vision and Movement which gives away the show (but then I hate anything that allows players to see things on CT they don't own also). Still I agree - free extensions are best way to go - or write your own - or if desperate and stupid buy one (EXTENSIONS = RISKS).
