I noticed Masking only works on larger images but what I am wondering is if I can make that basic map large enough to work with Masking?

Any Ideas?

Sorry, not following you at all here. Masking works on any image as far as I can see. Can you elaborate a bit more on what your problem is?

the masking layer is inert i.e not present under layers on some of my image maps? I don't know how to explain maybe but some images allow masking and some appear not to allow masking, I am going to run another update to my client maybe?

thanks

The way to mask the image is just to click the little mask icon at the top left of the image. Also are you using any extensions?

Just clicking the mask icon does not allow masking on some of my image maps, the ones that have a sample file work fine but the basic map does not work, I don't get it.

Maybe a screen cast could help.

I think I know what is happening.
If you create an image inside FG it uses the same image as what is used by the mask.

Actually - it looks like masking doesnt work on this image at all.
I wonder if it is done this way because of the extremely basic drawing capabilities no one ever even masks them either?

I don't know but I am an artist and I have Wacom tablet so intricate map scenarios would be beneficial for this feature to allow masking.

Can I petition the Dev?

Of course!
I think its probably unintentional....

Using your Wacom, can't you draw in some other application that will allow you to 'Save As' a .jpg or similar? Draw it, save it, and drag and drop it into FG. Or is that not feasible?

You will definitly get a better result painting in another app as aflevine says!

The mask feature does not mask over the drawing layer. I either draw on the fly, or I use one of the various external map-building programs, and just drop in the resulting graphic file.

the drawing layer in FG is extremely primitive. one colour, one thickness, no undo, no shading.
it is most used to highlight things on existing images.

hopefully the Unity build will have some better drawing options - but righy now you are better doing drawings in a tool that can do your skills some justice.... :)

Not entirely sure if this will be helpful, but the way I get around this (more as coincidence) is by using an extension that posted a while back. It changes the mask graphic image from a white background to a black one, so the mask becomes dark/black. Then I made a 200x200 image that is just a white box. Upon adding it to my image folder, I can pull that up, put a grid on it, draw on it, and apply the mask (which is black). I just don't use the default <<New Image>>, instead using this blank image jpg.

Thanks this all helps, I think I will manage better now.
